L’ULTIMO MEETING IN LITUANIA DEL PROGETTO ERASMUS PLUS CREATIVE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

We landed simultaneously with the Greek team in Riga, Latvia. Our Lithuanian and Turkish teachers were our welcoming party;it was a pleasure greeting them,as wewere all eager to work together again. A bus was waiting to take us to Pakruojis, as we left behind the tall trees of Latvia the bus begun to drive along wide straight long roads cutting through the Lithuanian immense flat land cultivated mainly with Canola. It was late when we arrived at the hotel, all the lights were out and an impressive starry night left me speechless.

In the morning, I realized were we were; it was an old manor’s house in the middle of a large property. If it were not for the cars in the parking lot, I would have thought to have travelled back to a recent past.

However, after breakfast our day started as of program. All students met in the school auditorium were the participated to an icebreaking activity and presenting their respective school and country! Later, the students divided into mixed groups to discuss and to produce a presentation on “What makes you an active citizen”.

After lunch, they went for a brief excursion of the little town of Pakruoji. At three o’clock, they met their dance teacher and learned how to dance a Lithuanian traditional folk dance.

Our first cultural trip began early in a chilly morning of the 7th of May destination Vilnius were they visited the Trakai castle all students participated actively and with enthusiasm.

The following day students were engaged in a practical educational lesson: “Felted wool flower” instead the teachers participated to a Russian language lesson. When the bell rang:we attended history and mathematics lessons.

Our students in the meantime formed mixed teams and played volleyball. Later they practiced Lithuanian folk dance.

After lunch cooperatively, worked on the following theme: unemployment, preparing some innovative solution.

Birzai Castle was our second cultural trip and students appreciated it very much.

In the afternoon, the new elected Mayor received us at the city hall.Students observed a polling station, as Lithuanians are voting for their president and for their new European Parliament representatives.

In the evening at the ‘farewell dinner’, teachers and students received their certificates. On our last day beforeleaving, we enjoyed very much listening to the traditional folk songs and dances organised by the Lithuanian students.  With eyes full tears everyone said goodbye knowing that would not meet again, as the Lithuanian meeting was the conclusive one.

However, we planted a seed, now we have to hope it will grow safe and robust.  I am sure all students have new friends in Greece, in Turkey and in Lithuania, and as far as I know, some are visiting each other thanks to the Erasmus project, knocking down borders, preconceptions, understanding closely the culture of their new acquired friends.
